9 Awesome Reasons to Plan a Trip to Wisconsin

If you’ve not thought of Wisconsin as a tourist destination, think again. In 2018, for example, 112 million people made a trip to Wisconsin, the Badger State, for a vacation.

This year, you could join their ranks by planning your own trip to Wisconsin with a stay at Adeline’s Retreat. Its obvious popularity isn’t the only reason to go, though—we have nine other truths that’ll inspire your next trip to the Midwest.

1. Make a trip to Wisconsin for Stunning Coastline

We know what you’re thinking: coastline? In Wisconsin? The truth is, the stretch of Wisconsin that runs along Lake Michigan is a truly stunning bit of nature.

Once you go to Door County, you’ll understand why this area has been inhabited by humans for the past 12,000 years. It’s that pristine.

The state has so many other beautiful lakes within its borders, though, so don’t limit yourself to Lake Michigan. We’re located on Lake Puckaway, and we have plenty of space to accommodate tourists who want to get in touch with nature once again.

2. You Can See the Stars

With so much wilderness to explore in Wisconsin, you might find yourself camping or, at least, staying somewhere close to nature. If you do, don’t forget to look up at night. Our clear skies have so many stars, which you can’t see in many of the country’s light-polluted cities.

The state has ten stargazing observatories from which you can see the brightest lights. And, if you’re lucky, the Northern Lights might appear while you’re out there, too—yes, Wisconsinites have seen them from time to time.

3. The Beer is Delicious

Now, not all of the Wisconsin tourist attractions are spots on a map. They can also be bullet points on a restaurant menu.

Wisconsin is home to some of the nation’s oldest and most storied breweries, including Coors and Pabst. But you can go off the beaten path for beer, too. The state has a slew of noteworthy microbreweries—you can easily make a tour out of visiting them all.

4. And on Your Trip to Wisconsin Don’t Forget the Food

If you love cheese, then Wisconsin’s a great place for your next trip. The state’s known for its dairy products, which include delicious cheese and curds, too.

You can pair your cheese with a bratwurst, another Wisconsin specialty. Now, imagine partnering all of that with a delicious pint of Wisconsin beer? Your vacation diet is set—and it’s delicious.

5. It’s a Destination For Sports Lovers

Now, if you love watching the NBA, NFL, or the MLB, then Wisconsin could draw you in with its pro sports teams. Depending on the time of year, you could see the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Bucks, or the baseball-playing Brewers. Check their schedules to see if you can coordinate your trip and tick another stadium off of your must-see list.

Now, Wisconsin’s not just a place to watch sports. You can participate in some outdoor exploits, too.

Of course, there are the lakes, which are perfect for kayaking, swimming, fishing, and more. If it’s snowing outside, grab your snowshoes and start walking.

6. You Can Check Out a Festival

On that note, your trip might also overlap with one of Wisconsin’s famous festivals. Summerfest draws in tons of tourists with several days of performances from big-name musicians. But it’s not just music festivals happening here in the Badger State.

Perhaps you want to attend our St. Patrick’s Day Parade, maple syrup festival, or our UFO-centric gathering. Check out the full slate of festivals, organized by months, on this calendar

7. There Are Some Unique Cities

You’ve probably heard about Wisconsin’s biggest cities. A trip to the state wouldn’t be complete without touring at least one of them.

Most tourists will wind up in Milwaukee and, indeed, there’s a lot to see there. But don’t discount Wisconsin’s other big cities.

You could take a tour of Green Bay and explore its football-centric history. Or, you might head to the state’s capital of Madison. It’s a university town, too, so there’s always plenty to do and see there.

8. The Dells Are Always Fun

You could also plan your trip to Wisconsin and center it around the state’s Dells. You won’t be there for the landscape, though—it’s all about the thrilling activities on offer, many of which will make you feel like a kid again.

The Wisconsin Dells are loaded with child-friendly activities that grown-ups will enjoy, too. You can stay at hotels filled with water slides or check out a water park in the area—the world’s biggest one is in the Dells. You can also check out the zip lines, roller coasters, water skiing shows, and more.

9. You Can Take in Some Colorful Autumn Leaves

Finally, if you time your Wisconsin trip correctly, you can see our warm-colored autumn leaves. With so much nature to be seen in Wisconsin, it should come as no surprise that the many trees changing colors in fall is a sight to behold.

You can time your trip to make sure you get to see the fiery reds, sunny yellows, and warm oranges. It’s a great respite from city life—drive over from Chicago to check them out for a weekend.

And, of course, a stay at Adeline’s Retreat would make your Trip to Wisconsin complete.
