Wisconsin Amish

Wisconsin Amish country has the fourth-largest Amish population in the United States. Each community’s customs differ from one church district to the next, but most resist using modern conveniences and technologies such as electricity, cell phones, driving modern automobiles, and using the latest in farming equipment.

While the communities remain close-knit and relatively private, some are open to sharing their fantastic baked goods and other wooden works built through their skilled craftsmanship at stores around the state. A few even offer self-guided or narrated driving tours so visitors can experience an up-close look at the farms, stores, and homes that make up these Amish communities.

Wisconsin Dalton and Kingston Amish Communities

Dalton’s Amish community is known for its lush farmland and quaint shops selling handmade goods. You’ll find a variety of woodworking shops where traditional techniques are still very much in use. The Dalton community is particularly famous for its quilt shops, where you can find intricately designed quilts, each telling its own story. Conversely, Kingston offers a serene rural landscape where horse-drawn buggies are common. The Amish here are known for their agricultural skills, producing some of the finest dairy products. The markets are brimming with homemade cheeses, fresh produce, and baked goods that can transport you back in time with just one taste.

These communities are firm believers in simplicity, humility, and hard work. Visiting these settlements is like stepping into a different world, where the hustle and bustle of modern life feel miles away. It’s a quiet reminder of a life grounded in community and craftsmanship.
